Lunch Should Be Something You Look Forward To

Lunch Should Be Something You Look Forward To

Lunch has somehow become the least interesting meal of the day. Breakfast gets its slow weekend mornings and dinner gets reservations, bottles of wine, and plans made days in advance. Lunch gets eaten at a desk. Maybe that’s why a good lunch feels like such a luxury, even when it really isn’t one. Sometimes all it takes is leaving the office, sitting across from someone you like, and eating something you actually wanted instead of whatever was easiest.

We like lunch at Bon Vivant for exactly that reason. During the week, people stop in for a gourmet sandwich and a drink, meet a friend or coworker, sit and talk for a while, and browse the market before heading back to whatever the rest of the day has waiting for them. And while we take our food seriously, lunch doesn’t always have to be so serious.

  Stay for a While

One of our favorite things about Bon Vivant is watching what happens when people actually stay. Someone comes in to grab lunch and recognizes somebody they know. Two people meet for a quick bite and are still talking long after they’ve finished eating. Regulars come through the door and we already know their faces. On any given afternoon, there’s a good chance somebody is lingering over a conversation or wandering the shelves before finally deciding they should probably get back to work.

Bon Vivant is a gourmet market, but it is also a place where we want people to feel comfortable spending some time. You can grab a bite and a drink, take a seat, catch up with someone, and look around the market afterward. There are cheeses in the fridge, bottles of wine on the shelves, charcuterie, preserves, pantry goods, and plenty of things you probably did not intend to buy when you came in.

Sometimes the best part of going out for lunch isn’t really the lunch at all. It’s getting out of the same four walls for an hour and having a real conversation in the middle of an otherwise ordinary weekday.

When Lunch Has to Come to You

Of course, some days the office wins. Our Charcuterie Lunch Boxes were made for the days when everyone needs to eat, but another tray of sandwiches just isn’t going to do it. Each box is individually packed with a curated selection of charcuterie, crackers, fresh fruit, a sweet treat, and your choice of one of our housemade deli salads.

They’re an easy option for meetings, corporate gatherings, office lunches, client visits, or really any occasion where you’re feeding a group and want lunch to feel considered without making it complicated. And if the meeting could have been an email, at least lunch can be good.

 Come Hungry, Leave With Dinner

There is also a particular danger in eating lunch inside our gourmet market: you have to walk past everything else on your way out. Maybe it’s a snack you haven’t tried before. Maybe it’s a jar from the pantry shelves that catches your eye, a bottle of wine for later, or some other item that suddenly gives you a very good reason not to cook dinner. We’re big believers in the kind of shopping that starts with “I’m just looking” and ends somewhere completely different.

That’s part of what makes stopping into Bon Vivant for lunch a little different. You can eat something good, stay for a while, and take a look around while you’re here. Lunch might solve dinner, too.

Make Something of Your Lunch Hour

Not every meal needs to be an occasion. Most Tuesdays are still just Tuesdays. But there’s something nice about making a little room in the middle of the day for yourself. Meet the friend you keep saying you need to see. Take your coworker somewhere other than the usual spot. Put your phone down for a bit. Have a meal you were actually looking forward to.

We’ll have a seat waiting for you at Bon Vivant in Miami Lakes.

Your inbox will still be there when you get back.
